Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNO): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Crime Yaseen Kichloo on Friday said that Jammu and Kashmir Police have rolled out a dedicated cybercrime mechanism to expedite complaint handling and enable quicker action to freeze suspected fraudulent funds.
Talking to reporters here, SSP Kichloo, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the system, established under the Jammu and Kashmir Cyber Coordination Centre (JK4C) and JK1C, will function through specialised wings dealing with cyber investigation, cyber operations and online crimes against children and women.
He urged victims of cyber fraud to immediately report incidents through the 1930 helpline or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), saying prompt reporting increases the chances of stopping or freezing the money before it is transferred further.
The SSP said complaints involving suspicious transactions are examined in coordination with banks and other concerned agencies for necessary action.
The SSP added that banks are also using artificial intelligence and pattern-based analysis to detect suspicious transactions, while police coordinate with the Department of Telecommunications, Reserve Bank of India and the banking system.
He said accounts will be unfrozen as per procedure where investigations find no sufficient grounds to continue the freeze, while serious cases will lead to registration of FIRs and further legal action. “A dedicated mechanism has also been established for online crimes against children and women, including counselling and victim-oriented assistance,” he said.
The SSP also reiterated that immediate reporting remains critical in cyber fraud cases, both for preventing further movement of funds and facilitating investigation and recovery proceedings—(KNO)
